Many years ago, could you imagine that the virus would cause the earth confusion like COVID-17? Nowadays, thanks to globalization, our life has a strong connection to the world. Not to say that we have a relationship with the planet, nature, and all human beings. Our action affects the whole thing. We need to keep this in mind. It is slower than we think to respond to this issue, but it is not too late to take action. To make it realized, there are two points that I think we need to do as faster as we can.
The first point is to talk to other people and make the issue exist nearby us. Many people might think “What if I am the only person who concerns this?” or “Would not it be embarrassed to talk about this topic with my friends or family?”. I think the reason that we would worry like this is because we do not really know about it, because we do not think it as important as our daily lives, because we do not believe it would occur in the future. We are in the same circumstance as COVID-17 and to SDGs. Data shows that 74% people in the world who recognize SDGs while in Japan, there is only 49%.
However, if you try to make the action in front of your friends or family, they would aware of what you do, and even recall the action that you do when they face the same situation. Before I started to learn SDGs, I am one of those who did not take the problem that seriously, but now the thoughts changed my behavior and made me see things from different angles. According to this experience, I think that we need not hesitate to do the right things. We need to have more courage to expand the ideas which we want them to know.
The second thing is to have an idea that we live together, that we can help each other. Imagine that there is a sweet, delicious pie in front of you, and you can hog the largest piece of it because you succeed to carry on a big project. While your colleague did not gain the result as you did, so she or he could only have the small piece of it. As a result, your colleague might think that this is not fair, so you two would become a rival and vie with each other to see who is the better since then. These days everyone involves the game “competition” like this, but do we really feel happy? Globalization makes us think of the problem like this, and this result shows us that what we care about the most is always the consequence and the amount of benefit we can gain ourselves. However, we need to see the affaire on a big scale, about the earth we survive at the same time. There is a consideration that I learned five years ago in Canada is called think win-win. The thought is that if we work effectively with other people, we can achieve an optimal result compare to do it alone. We can use this idea because it helps us to become a group. If we think about the issue like how to protect our earth together, we can cooperate with others to make a good country. Once it appeared and let this behavior involved in each country, the others might imitate it. Then we would become attentive people and live a comfortable world together.
Owing to the opportunities to teach the students who live in Cambodia on the internet this summer, I understood that our ability could help more people than we think if we want. I taught them English, and I realized that there are more people like them who need our help but are noteless in the world. Why don’t we share our wisdom to contribute to those who need us to achieve the goal “no one is left behind”?
As mention above, it is true that we cannot change history. But there are many things that we can make it from now. The key to making a good world for ourselves and everyone toward the future generation is in our hands.
