『Gender Equality and Reducing Inequality ~ Steps Toward a Fairer World ~』
In the modern world, we still see many unfair situations based on gender or where someone is born. That is why the United nations created the Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs which include Coal 5 ”Gender Equality” and Goal 10 ”Reduced Inequalities” There two goals are connected because we can not reduce overall inequality if gender inequality still exists. To make the world a fair place, we need to work the world a fairer place, we need to work on both at the same time.
When I was younger, I often heard people say, ”Girls should act like girls” or ”Boys should act like boys,” especially at school or family events. At first, I did not think much about it. But later, I felt these words put limits on what people can do just because of their gender. For example, during a school event, a teacher told a girl in my class to ”be more like a girl” because she was talking loudly. At the same time, boys were allowed to be loud and active. This made me realize boys and girls are expected to behave very differently, and that is not fair.
These ideas affect everyone. If girls feel they have to be quiet, they might not speak up in class or at work later. If boys think they must always be touch, they might hide their feelings or not ask for help. These limits stop people from being themselves.
Gender equality means everyone, no matter their gender, has the same rights and chances. It is not only about women but also about boys and men. When women can work and lead, society gets better ideas and fairer decisions.
But inequality is not only about gender. It also happens between rich and poor people and between countries. People in wealthy countries usually have better access to education and healthcare. On the other hand, people in developing countries, especially women, often face more difficulties. For example, girls in poor countries often can not go to school, while girls in rich countries usually can. Schools can teach respect and fairness from a young age. When girls go to school, they can get good jobs and live independently. More female leaders in politics and business can also bring new ideas and help make decisions that include everyone.
Also, in Japan, I think we still have a lot to change. Women’s voices are often not heard enough, and traditional roles are still strong. But, I believe young people can change this by learning, speaking up, and supporting each other.
My own experience has shown me how unfair gender roles can be. Gender equality and reducing inequality are big goals, but they are important if we want a peaceful and fair world. They are not only problems in other countries, but also things we need to work on in our own communities. Everyone , including high school students like me can take small steps toward change. If more people understand and care about these issues, we can create to succeed, no matter their gander or background.
