I chose No.7 of SDGs which is “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.” I had a class on renewable energy. I want to learn about energy and how many people have access to energy without are problems. Especially, I want to learn about renewable energy, so I chose number seven.
I researched about energy in Japan. According to the Sustainable Development Report published by SDSN (Sustainable Development Solutions Network) and the Bertelsmann Foundation, Japan's overall achievement score for SDGs No. 7 "Affordable and clean energy" in 2021 was 79.8 point, ranking 18th in the world. Regarding the assessment of SDGs No. 7, significant challenges remain according to the assessment, but it trends towards gradual improvement. If we achieve number seven, we ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. There are so many benefits to achieving this goal.
We use renewable energy more, the more sustainable our energy usage will be. We also can halt global warning and climate change by carbon dioxide In Japan, we can create energy by thermal power which doesn’t emit carbon dioxide. It courses global warming, climate change, sea level rising and so on. If people use fossil fuels like oil and natural gas, they will deplete by around 2070, and coal will deplete by around the year 2150. One of the solutions is using renewable energy such as solar energy, hydro energy, wind energy, biomass energy, and geothermal energy. Now, we use renewable energy, about 20% of all energy. People use fossil fuel a lot because renewable energy has some problems. Such as the high initial cost of installation, power storage, non-renewable energy monopoly, lack of policies, subsidies, lack of knowledge and awareness and so on. However, if people use fossil fuel a lot which is limited energy, we will run out of usable energy. I cannot solve this problem on my own because I am not a specialist. But we can think about this problem and do what we can. For example, to save electric devices like refrigerators and air conditioners, television and more. Turn off the lights frequently, switch to energy-efficient appliances, don't leave appliances plugged in when not in use, and be careful not to set the air conditioner temperature too high in the winter or too low in the summer. If each individual changes the way they use energy, more people will be able to use energy safely. As well, the impact on the global environment will be reduced, leading to a brighter future.
