『Since the spread of ・・・』

Since the spread of COVID-19, some goals of SDGs are getting difficult to achieve. Despite this, there are several things that we can act on in order to achieve SDGs’ goals during the pandemic. Certainly, prevention actions for COVID infection such as wearing a mask, washing hands regularly, or using hand sanitizer are crucial in preventing the spread of COVID-19 which is making SDGs goals difficult to achieve. There are several ways to increase the chance of achievement of those SDGs’ goals.

First, regarding goal number 4 which is about making sure all students have access to inclusive education and encouraging opportunities for lifelong learning, we can engage in volunteering where you can teach language or any subjects online, not in person. Since the spread of COVID, there has been a decline in education coverage and an expansion of the educational gap. To tackle that issue, we can improve the educational gap that was created by the pandemic by teaching online. However, there is an issue regarding teaching subjects online to children all over the world. Some countries cannot access the online, especially developing countries which makes it difficult for us to teach subjects online. However, through volunteer groups or other institutions that are making the linkage between the developing country and the country where you are living, there is a chance that we can teach subjects to the children who live in developing countries online. Therefore, engaging in volunteering is the key to this matter.

Second, donations to poor countries could help solve the derailed progress toward SDGs goals, especially goal number 1 which is about poverty. As learned in this volunteer, there has been an increase in the poverty rate and the poverty rate rose from 8.4% to 8.8% in 2020 due to the spread of COVID-19. Since we cannot directly help them, donations can be a solution that we all can engage in to help improve the poverty rate which can be seen a lot in developing countries. If there are any institutions or groups that are engaging in donations, they can be more active in calling more people to donate.

Lastly, we all should learn more about the relationship between COVID-19 and SDGs’ goals so that we can tackle those issues, therefore, spreading the knowledge about those issues that are rising from the pandemic is crucial to inform many people that there are many issues and the importance to tackle those issues through cooperation. As learned in this volunteer, many still do not know the existence of SDGs goals and the issues related to those goals and COVID-19. We can actively inform about issues to those who do not know about the SDGs and those issues through social media or other online platforms. Additionally, schools should actively do more classes about education and making discussions about those issues actively in their classes. We can inform those issues to our family members to encourage them to donate or engage in volunteer groups. Before taking action, knowing about those issues related to COVID-19 and SDGs goals is essential.

In conclusion, except for COVID prevention actions, it is crucial to engage in volunteer groups where you can teach subjects to children who especially live in developing countries to increase the chance of achievement of goal number 4. Additionally, it is important to donate, at least a tiny amount, so that the poverty rate that is worsened by COVID can be improved. Lastly, it is essential that we are fully informed and educated regarding the relations between COVID and the SDGs’ goals in the first place so that we can take action actively.
