『The first big step that leads to a solution.』
Even at this moment, plastic waste that has been spilled into the ocean is putting life in danger.Mistaking plastic for food can not only threaten the lives of marine life, but also affect other organisms and even humans through the food chain.Plastic, which affects the environment of the entire planet, is a material with a high environmental impact. Much of the plastic comes from petrochemicals.Because CO2 is emitted during the manufacturing stage and recycling, the environmental impact is high compared to other materials.
As a result, shopping bags were charged in Japan in July 2020, and the Plastic Resources Environment Promotion Act, which requires companies to reduce plastic waste, came into effect in April 2022.Twelve items, including forks provided at convenience stores, are subject to reduction, but plastic bottles and bento containers are not subject to reduction, and less than 1% of all plastic waste can be reduced.
And many people may hear the word SDGs today.According to Dentsu's Survey on SDGs, as of January 2022, SDGs' recognition was 86.0% far higher than that of last year (54.2%).However, only 34.2 percent of the respondents answered that they knew the content. It is true that SDGs are gaining recognition in Japan, but the results show that many people know the word SDGs but are not satisfied with just mentioning the word SDGs.
Through this training, I strongly hope to solve the current situation and the results of the research that I have mentioned so far, the goal of 7 "AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY" and the goal of 14 "LIFE BELLOW WATER."This is because plastic has a negative impact not only on humans but also on other animals and the environment, but it is not accompanied by countermeasures. Also, the future of the earth depends on how we young people, who will become adults and become the center of society and move the world, understand and act on the current state of the earth.
To do so, plastic must be replaced with other materials.Plastic products became popular after the 20th century. It didn't exist until then, so if you learn from the past, you will be able to live without plastic. For example, if a paper bag is used instead of a plastic bag or a can or a bottle is used instead of a plastic bottle, the problem can be solved. In addition, some plastic products around you can be handled with different materials.Replacing plastic shelves and straws with wooden shelves and paper straws is less likely to cause functional problems.
Next, just as plastic has been created through advances in technology, we can create and disseminate materials that can replace various plastic products. If a material is developed that is difficult to emit CO2 and easily decomposed even during the disposal stage, plastic will not be used.
Like this, there are many things we can do right now for the sake of the earth.Taking action, even small things, is the first big step that leads to a solution.
