I thought it was important for us to share our thoughts, understand each other, and coexist with each other on Goal 10 of the SDGs, which is to reduce inequality between people and countries.
I am in Japan and I don't feel discrimination by people or countries just by living a normal life. However, even in Japan, there is discrimination against people with disabilities and gender. Furthermore, looking at the world, discrimination caused by racial and cultural differences, such as religion and ethnicity, continues to this day. Goal 10 is at the root of the SDGs' basic principle of "no one is left bihind," and is deeply related to solving poverty, hunger, and gender discrimination. In addition, Goal 10 targets not only the elimination of visible inequalities, but also the promotion of policies to protect the socially disadvantaged, as well as the participation of all people in political and economic arenas. For example, there is the "Convention on the Rights of the Child" to eliminate discrimination. It stipulates that all children have equal rights regardless of their social status. However, discrimination and prejudice are problems that children face on a daily basis around the world, and if they are subject to discrimination, they cannot receive essential mental and physical care, as well as medical treatment. This is the current situation. Children from marginalized minorities are also exploited in child labor. In addition, I saw the news that the gap between rich and poor in the corona disaster has directly led to the gap in life. It is said that many of the deaths due to the new corona are homeless people who do not have a good living environment, and low-income people who are not allowed to take time off from work because it is difficult for them to go to the hospital due to financial problems. Due to economic reasons, I was unable to go to the hospital for treatment, and the lives that could have been saved were lost due to the gap between rich and poor. I thought that the first thing we could do to change the current situation was to spread the word. For example, you can actively participate in politics or share your knowledge on social media. It is natural for people to have different opinions, and it is natural to compare ourselves with others. However, if we don't express our opinions and think only we are right, discrimination will never disappear. I think it's important to make an effort to convey your thoughts and culture and have them understand. I think it's important to acknowledge each other and make concessions, rather than sticking to your own intentions by communicating with each other. I think that discrimination will decrease if such a trend spreads in the world little by little. Also, by spreading my knowledge to others, I think it is necessary to have them know the current situation and help them to spread the word. By increasing the number of posts, more people will know about the current situation, and more people may want to volunteer or donate. I think that the situation will improve if more people help.
