Global poverty is a key challenge for sustainable development, as stated in Goal 1 of the SDGs. There are more than 709 million people in extreme poverty worldwide living on less than $1.9 a day. Poverty is closely linked to a variety of issues, including hunger, health, education, gender, and the environment. Eliminating poverty protects human dignity and rights and promotes peace and stability.
World poverty and Japanese poverty differ in nature and degree. World poverty is mainly called "absolute poverty," a state in which a person is unable to make a minimum standard of living. Poverty in Japan is mainly called "relative poverty," in which people live on incomes that are lower than the national average. These two types of poverty have different problems and causes.
The problems of world poverty affect many areas, including hunger, health, education, gender, and the environment. People living in poverty lack access to basic services such as adequate food, water, sanitation supplies, medical care, and education. Poverty also violates human dignity and rights and interferes with peace and stability. There are many causes of poverty in the world, including conflict, disasters, political instability, economic inequality, social discrimination, and cultural oppression. Poverty interacts with these factors to create a cycle of poverty.
Here are the three main things I can do to help end poverty.
The first is to make a donation or fundraise for an aid organization. International NGOs provide basic services such as food, water, sanitation supplies, medical care, and education in impoverished areas. They also respond quickly to emergencies such as disasters and conflicts.We can contribute to the solution of poverty by making regular donations to these organizations and by participating in fundraising activities.
Second, buy and use fair trade products. Fair trade is a system of trade that provides farmers and factory workers in developing countries with a fair income, working environment, and social security. Food products such as coffee, chocolate, and bananas, as well as daily necessities such as clothing and sundries, are sold as fair trade products. By selecting, purchasing, and using these products, we can help impoverished producers improve their lives and become self-reliant.
Third, I participate in volunteer activities and continue to speak out.Volunteer work involves going to impoverished areas and working with local people to improve their lives and society. Through volunteer activities, you can directly experience and learn about the realities, causes, and effects of poverty. We can also spread information and opinions about poverty by sharing the knowledge and impressions we gain through our volunteer activities on social networking sites and blogs. We can promote social awareness and action on poverty by participating in volunteer activities and continuing to speak out.
As described above, we can contribute to the elimination of poverty in many ways. Poverty can affect the lives and future of each of us. It is important for us to get the right information about poverty, think about what we can do to help, and then do it. Eliminating poverty will also lead to our own happiness and peace. Let us work together to eliminate poverty.
