『What we can do to end poverty』
In recently, poverty has become a global problem. Hunger due to poverty is also included in the SDGs as a major problem. In Japan, poverty is low and no one suffers from hunger. However, many people in the world are suffering. There are currently about 700 to 800 million people in the world living on less than $1.9 a day. $1.9 does not get them the food, water, or medical care they need. It is very difficult for them to make ends meet because they cannot afford the cost of utilities, smartphones, and other communications.
First, poverty is more than the lack of income and resources to ensure a sustainable livelihood. Its manifestations include hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services, social discrimination and exclusion as well as the lack of participation in decision making. To solve this problem, the country's economy must be revitalized. A growing economy creates more jobs, so more people can earn more money. And with more time to spend at work, people will find their lives more fulfilling. However, individual effort is also required. In Japan, people decide whether to have children after considering many things, including their own income. However, for some reason, people in poverty seem to have many children. How can children be rich when they themselves are suffering from poverty? They cannot be happy. I believe that more children in poor and hungry families will only make more people unhappy. So why do people have so many children? I believe it is because they lack adequate education and knowledge. Therefore, I believe that in order to solve poverty, it is also essential to improve education. The more knowledge people have, the better, because they can use it for other things, or work in other countries to earn money and send it to their families.
To solve those problems, we need to be careful what we buy. We need to make sure that the price is fair and that the people who make it are not working in an environment that is too harsh. Then the problem of people working for unfairly low wages will gradually be solved. Also, although I cannot go there and help, I can help by donating money or giving to such organizations. Some people may think that this is meaningless because they are not helping themselves, but if we all work together, what we cannot do on our own will be a great help to solve the problem of poverty. I believe that simply imagining the people who make things when you buy them will change people's attitudes, and I intend to do so. Furthermore, it is important not to leave food behind. Food loss has recently become an issue in Japan, and a lot of food is thrown away. People should be careful not to throw away food, as this may help provide food to those who suffer from poverty.
I believe that by doing what we can do, little by little, even in small ways, we will eventually become a great power that will one day solve the world's problems, and I hope we will all work together to do our best.
