『Importance of understanding SDGs』
I think that spreading and understanding SDGs as many people as possible is most important thing.
Now, most of people in Japan know the word “SDGs”. Because these days we often hear it on mass media including TV, internet and newspapers. However, they probably do not know the details about it. So they cannot translate ideas into action. In short, understanding why SDGs need lead to taking action and achieve goals. For example, there are many problems which are unlikely to happen in Japan such as education, hunger, poverty, sanitation and infrastructure in developing countries. Of course, there are also some problems in Japan. For instance, gender equality in particular, consumption and production and climate action. If you understand only one of these problems, your action should be changed.
I had heard of the name “SDGs”. But I had not known what SDGs do before I learned it on borapura. Learning SDGs and live activity with children of Cambodia changed my mind.
Especially education systems are most interesting problem for me in a variety of problems. In Japan, all children can study, or rather, they must study for 9 years at least. Now most children go on to high school and then university advancement rate is rising. However, children often dislike to study. I think this is because studying is their duty and they do not know a real appreciation of studying. There are many children who want to study but cannot do in the world. Japanese children should understand this fact through SDGs and then come to appreciate doing just like me.
Next, I do not like gender discrimination and violence for a long time. Women and girls have potential same as men and boys. These days, discriminatory remarks toward women of Japanese politician and Me Too movement in the world is the topic of conversation. I think that there are recently mounting international concern over this problem. Now we should establish the women right. I show one of the most impressive texts here.
Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
Providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large. (Volunteer Platform “Online SDGs Overseas Volunteer Training” No.2 Learn about the basics of the SDGs②)
As this shows, gender equality leads to societies which is better than now. For example, if women like men are can be manager, diversity of point of view will grow more and more and then every body are easy to work.
This problem in particular is not solved in Japan among developed countries. This feature is especially displayed in the low representation of women in politics. Therefore, I think that we Japanese ought to be ashamed of it more.
Therefore, I think that spreading and understanding SDGs as many people all over the world as possible is most significant thing.
